The other night I was having an intense craving for chocolate. The problem was, I did not feel like baking anything and the only thing I had was chocolate chips. As I scanned my pantry, searching for an adequate dessert, my eyes took in 3 ingredients that suddenly made perfect sense:
- Sprouted Brown Rice Cocao Crisps from One Degree
- chocolate chips
- peanut butter
I decided to combine them to invent this super easy and delicious recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispies!
So you might be saying “but where do I find those cacao crisps?!” No worries, you can substitute any puffed rice cereal (or any cereal, really!) that you find in the store. I happened to discover these on a recent trip to Costco and was so pleasantly surprised to see the word “vegan” on anything in that store that I immediately bought it! (no affiliation with the cereal company whatsoever – just excited it exists and it tastes good!)
This dessert is really quick to make and is great for anyone who loves chocolate and/or peanut butter. It’s easy to package into individual portions and transportable, making it perfect for parties and events.
And did I mention it has chocolate…and peanut butter?
It always surprises me when people think that chocolate is not vegan. Seriously, I thank my lucky stars every day that chocolate is, in fact, dairy free! Chocolate is made from cacao, which is a plant. So it’s naturally vegan until dairy is added.
Finding vegan chocolate in stores is actually pretty easy as long as you know what to look for. Pretty much all dark chocolate is naturally vegan, as no milk has been added. Same usually goes for semi-sweet chocolate. Be sure to check labels for ingredients to avoid, such as: milk, milk fat, lactose, whey and casein.
I do a lot of grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods and have discovered that both of their store brand chocolate chips are vegan!
You might already have these ingredients in your kitchen. But if not, I suggest you pick them up next time you’re out. You never know when that craving will hit!
Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispies
A delicious chocolate & peanut butter Vegan dessert.

- 1 1/2 cup puffed rice cereal
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- Melt chocolate chips for about 1 minute, until soft. Add peanut butter and heat for another 30 seconds. Stir until combined.
- Add cereal and stir until it's evenly coated.
- Form into balls on a sheet of parchment paper or muffin cups and let cool for at least 30 minutes so the chocolate can harden. (Faster is you put in the fridge)
